Ingredients
- 200g paneer or firm tofu
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green chili, minced (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala or curry powder
- 2 medium tomatoes, diced
- 1 cup frozen peas
- 1/2 cup water (or as needed)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Cut paneer or tofu into cubes. If using store brought paneer, soak it in hot salted water for 10-15 minutes. If using tofu, press out excess water and air fry until golden (optional). Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Add chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Add grated ginger, minced garlic, and green chili (if using). Sauté for a minute until fragrant. Add turmeric powder, pepper, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala/curry powder. Sauté for another minute. Add diced tomatoes and cook until the tomatoes soften and the oil starts to separate. (if you want the gravy creamy, could add ground soaked cashews to the mix and/or add some fresh cream) Add the cubed paneer/tofu and frozen peas. Mix well. Add water to adjust the consistency of the gravy. Bring to a simmer. Season with salt to taste. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the peas are tender. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
